João Jesus
Sculptor, self-taught, inventor
With a diverse professional background in areas such as, mechanics, satellite system installation and naval repair. In 2017, he began small artistic projects on the balcony of his home, using cutlery (forks and spoons) and used motorcycle and bicycle parts. Since 2020, he has been operating in a larger space that allows him to create large-scale works. His work focuses on transforming discarded metals and mechanical components into intricate sculptures, predominantly linked to marine themes (seahorses, octopuses, tuna), but also covering other figures and subjects. His practice is deeply rooted in sustainability, using 100% recycled materials (excluding welding and finishing consumables).
Education
- Electrical Engineering: Portuguese Navy (technical training, without practising the profession).
Notable Public Works
- 2025: “Overseas Combatant” – 180cm sculpture commissioned by the Municipality of Albufeira (next to Modelo-Continente).
- 2024: “The Tuna” – 7-metre monumental sculpture commissioned by the Municipality of Albufeira (next to INATEL).
